Project Description
Rathbones is one of the UK’s leading investment management firms, responsible for over £44.5bn of assets under management. They advise and manage UK and international equity and fixed interest investments for individuals, families, trusts, charities, pension funds and institutions.
They sought a solution to enhance and replace an existing research database application, hosted in SharePoint 2007. The new application needed to be significantly faster than the existing research website, include advanced search and tagging functionality, have an advanced dashboard landing page, be multimedia friendly, deliver 99.9% availability, fully incorporate Thomson Reuters stock market data feeds and be fully secure.
Bridgeall developed and built a research database solution on top of SharePoint Online allowing users of the solution to view the companies’ up to date stock market data as well as internal and 3rd party research all in one location.
A SharePoint solution allowing the research department to focus on market analysis and specialist content creation with no re-keying required from other third-party solutions.
Speirs & Jeffrey (subsequently acquired by Rathbones) is one of the UK’s leading investment management firms. Operating from their Glasgow base for over 100 years, the company advise and manage UK and international equity and fixed interest investments, managing portfolios for individuals, families, trusts, charities, pension funds and institutions.
The company’s in-house research team approached Bridgeall to help with the management of content published within the organisation for analysts to consume. The current way of doing things involved labour-intensive manual processes re-keying from different systems.
Utilising Office 365 and SharePoint Online, Bridgeall delivered a solution based on SharePoint’s Product Catalog functionality. Templated company and sector pages were created, with the SharePoint Search API being used to pull in relevant company and sector information.
This allowed the research team to create items tagged with one or more companies or sectors. Items then surface onto the page when analysts are reviewing a company for investment.
Bridgeall also supported the research team in reducing their manual workload by automating the generation of PDF’s used within the site so that these were updated every day with the previous day’s closing prices from Thomson Reuters.
The use of metadata, term sets and the Search API all contributed to the new research application being quick and responsive to use, allowing analysts to find information on appropriate companies in real time.
The end result was a SharePoint solution allowing the research department to focus on market analysis and specialist content creation with no re-keying required from other third-party solutions.
Analysts can make use of the application to get up-to-date facts and figures about companies and sectors that their customers may be interested in, quickly and with confidence that the information is accurate.
