Project Description
Dalmore Capital had implemented a Distillery Power App to manage investors, funds and business structures. The Power App had worked successfully within the company, however as the application was becoming more prominent within business operations, it was identified that the current data source did not meet all of the security and regulatory objectives.
Bridgeall worked with the team to move from a SharePoint based configuration to Microsoft Dataverse and implemented a new model-driven app to drive efficiencies across the business and support a more flexible, scalable and structured solution going forward.
About Dalmore Capital
Founded in England and Wales, Dalmore is an independent fund management company that acquires, manages and holds infrastructure assets, to deliver long term value for investors while benefiting all stakeholders. Dalmore manages over £5.5 billion of capital sourced from leading institutional investors globally. Its funds have invested in over 140 infrastructure assets through co-mingled discretionary funds and co-investment vehicles. The investments made by Dalmore Capital are in infrastructure assets that are involved in the provision of essential public services. This includes schools, hospitals, roads, utilities, trains, waste treatment and renewable energy generation.
Challenges facing Dalmore Capital
The Distillery Power App used to manage investors, funds and business structures had been implemented within Dalmore Capital with some success. However, as the application was becoming more prominent within business operations, it was identified as part of an internal audit, that it should be moved from a SharePoint-based configuration as its back end.
Bridgeall worked to carry out a comprehensive audit of the Distillery App to be able to gather a full understanding of the application and formulate recommendations from the audit findings. From the audit we gathered a solution overview of the app and focused on the wider governance aspect of the app. From this audit we proposed recommendations that would ensure the application was put on a stable footing and had good governance around it to meet criteria set by auditors and investors.
We looked at some of the following aspects to assess readiness and reliability of the Distillery app:
- Source Code: Where (if any) is the source code located. Is this backed up and integrated with Azure DevOps to ensure code reliability and stability.
- Development/Test Environments: How these were set up, if at all, and how these could be used going forward to ensure the app could be developed, expanded and scale as business demands require.
- Hosting: How the app was hosted. Was the hosting platform fit for purpose and suitable for it to scale in the future.
- App Accounts/Integrations: Was the Distillery app set up using any specific accounts. Were these set up as service accounts, secured and following best practices. If any integrations were present in the app, how these were configured and do these use specific accounts configured in accordance with best practice.
Implementation – The move to Dataverse
Subject to completion of the audit, we then provided a proposal for supporting the Distillery app. The proposal outlined what was in scope for support and how the agreement of support would function in principle. Alongside the migration to Dataverse, Bridgeall implemented a new model-driven app to drive efficiencies across the business allowing users to easily obtain the information they required. A custom workflow was also seamlessly integrated into the app, all of which combined means Dalmore are now able to complete tasks and workflows in the one place, quickly and more efficiently than before.
As a result of our efforts Dalmore Capital were able to realise the following benefits:
- Efficiency – Dalmore Capital are now able to complete tasks and workflows in one place, quickly and more efficiency.
- Governance – A strong set of ALM tools supported by a governance framework and the centre of excellence all allows Dalmore Capital to better manage their risks relating to sprawl from Power Apps data.
