This month in our Meet the Team series, we’re talking to Julianne Connelly. Julianne is our Marketing and Office Administrator here at Bridgeall. We find out more about her role and what she enjoys the most about being part of the Bridgeall team.
Tell us more about your role and what it involves?
My role is Marketing and Office Administrator here at Bridgeall.
Where do I start! In short, a little bit of everything. I provide admin support to our Marketing Team and get involved with Finance and HR tasks as well as helping to run the office.
How long have you been working at Bridgeall?
I joined the company in January 2016, so over five years now.
What do you like most about your job?
I love the variety each day brings. I particularly enjoy helping colleagues and organising social events in the office, such as Christmas, Birthdays and team building events, and of course the annual coffee morning in support of Macmillan Cancer Support.
What does a typical day for you look like?
A typical day starts with my inbox and prioritising tasks for the day. I get involved with many different aspects of the office, so I don’t really have a ‘typical day’.
What is your background and what certifications do you have?
I’ve worked in administration all my life in a variety of roles including PA, Secretary and Administrator. In 2010 I decided to return to study and completed an HND in Computing: Technical Support at Dumfries College. I was a little nervous returning to study after such a long time, particularly as most of my classmates were school-leavers, but was lucky to be one of a few mature students.
Anyway, I did quite well, achieving the highest mark in my class and the SQA Centre Award for 2011/12. I also gained Microsoft and Cisco Certification during the course.
What is it like working at Bridgeall?
I love working at Bridgeall and proud to be part of a great team. I enjoy the supportive, positive culture from both managers and colleagues.
How have you found moving to working from home?
It was strange at first and my dog, Oscar, thought he had a new full-time playmate! Here he is at Christmas time! However, I soon got into a new routine and with all my office equipment at home and the team a call away, I just have a different view.
Favourite project you've worked on?
With the shift to working remotely, we’ve been focusing on more projects to help employee health and wellbeing and keeping people connected. We’ve been doing team events, regular chats and mental health training.
I’ve recently completed the training to become a Mental Health First Aider and having always suffered from poor mental health, I value the opportunity to be the first point of contact for anyone experiencing symptoms of mental ill health within the office.
What do you enjoy doing when you're not working?
I love spending time in my garden which was a blank canvas when we first moved in over four years ago. It’s starting to fill up now with plants, trees and garden buildings so edging a little closer to making an appearance in Beechgrove!
Something on your bucket list?
I’ve always wanted to learn to play violin but pretty sure I’ll never get round to it. Maybe I should settle with my other more achievable bucket list item of ‘milking a cow’!
And finally, a note from Julianne's Line Manager
"Julianne is a very well-liked member of our Administrative team here at Bridgeall, having worked with us for a number of years and helping out in all areas of general office management and administration. Julianne helps to ensure our organisation runs smoothly. She is super-organised and responsive, always keen to get things done and improve our administrative processes. She also uses her many creative talents to organise our company events, whether that be the Christmas party or team-building events – all virtual at the moment, of course!" - Waseem Anwar, Director
