Project Description
V&A Museums were using the Power Platform with some success but wanted to secure their environment and data and start to leverage the potential of the Power Platform from a secure starting point. They were looking for a partner to not only provide consultancy but to be hands on in delivering the recommendations within their environment and taking them forward with the Power Platform.
V&A Museums is the world’s leading museum of art and design, housing a permanent collection of over 2.8 million objects, books and archives that span over 5,000 years of human creativity. The museum holds many of the UK’s national collections and houses some of the greatest resources for the study of architecture, furniture, fashion, textiles, photography, sculpture, painting, jewellery, glass, ceramics, book arts, Asian art and design, theatre and performance.
Challenges facing V&A Museums
V&A Museums were using the Power Platform and wanted to ensure they were moving forward with the solution from a secure place.
It was becoming evident that Power Platform was beginning to be used more widely within the organisation, and V&A Museums were concerned about not having insight into the usage of Power Platform and not having any governance in place to more closely manage and align into best practices was becoming an ever-increasing challenge. They were looking for a partner to not only provide consultancy but to be hands on in delivering the recommendations within their environment.
To support V&A Museums’ continued adoption of the Power Platform, we provided a review and consultation to put the V&A on a secure foundation moving forward. We suggested our Power Platform Quickstart where we recommended a review of the current V&A Museums Power Platform structure, CoE, Governance strategy, Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) maturity level, practices, their existing Power Apps and processes. Areas that formed part of this review included the organisations Power Platform environment setup, use of connectors, deployed power apps and flows, security and permissions.
The output from the review allowed for the development of the ongoing V&A Museum strategy. Our team implemented the Power Platform Centre of Excellence, which gave the team the benefits of getting a better overview of their estate in terms of apps and workflows. They are now using this data to drive an approach to governance which will help them track and implement new Apps and workflows. We also put in a governance recommendations report to help guide their decision-making process in conjunction with the CoE. The documentation included recommendations and industry best practice relating to areas such as environment strategy, the use of Data Loss Prevention policies, build automation, the use of Azure DevOps for source control and deployment pipelines, environment security, the use of admin connectors for monitoring environments and deployed components.
Overall, the team is still in the infancy of their Power Platform journey, so these efforts have collectively helped the team to lay the foundations for effective processes in the future.
As a result of our efforts the V&A Museums team were able to realise the following benefits:
- The team were able to get a better overview of their estate in terms of applications and workflows. They are now using this data to drive an approach to governance which will help them track and implement new applications and workflows.
- Our governance recommendations have put the team on a stable footing and ensures the right decisions are being made based off the information they have received.
