Tell us more about your role and what it involves?

I’m a Cloud Support Engineer at Bridgeall. My role involves providing day to day support to clients with their onpremises and cloud infrastructure. I also support the implementation of new projects; this includes tasks such as deploying and configuring cloud services in Microsoft 365 and Azure cloud.

How long have you been working at Bridgeall?

I started with Bridgeall in September 2022, so only six months. During this time I have learned a lot and feel like I have integrated well within the team.

What do you like most about your job?

I like that no two days are the same, technology is continually evolving and we are given the opportunity to utilise the latest technology to enhance our clients experience. I also enjoy speaking to new people and the challenge of problem solving.

What does a typical day for you look like?

A typical day would consist of carrying out proactive client system checks in the morning to identify any issues or irregularities and action them before they escalate. Throughout the day I provide support to the service desk to help investigate and resolve tickets raised by clients. I also support project delivery and continually monitor client environments to enhance performance.

What is your background?

I started working in IT 8 years ago working first line in an IT service desk. From there I developed my knowledge and experience going on to provide second line and server support for an Emergency Service. Along the way I have completed an apprenticeship in IT Systems and Network SCQF Level 6 as well as courses covering Windows 10, Windows Server, Office 365, Microsoft Azure and System Centre Configuration Manager.

I obtained my Microsoft Azure Fundamentals certification last year and aim to achieve Azure Administrator and Azure Virtual Desktop certification this year.

What is it like working at Bridgeall?

I really enjoy working here, everyone at Bridgeall has been welcoming since I started. We have a good team, everyone is very supportive and there is a real team spirit.

How have you found moving to working from home?

It was a bit of a culture shock at the start in terms of the social aspect, going from a busy office to working alone from home. Starting with Bridgeall I was slightly worried that working from home would hinder me settling in with the rest of the team however the use of Microsoft Teams for regular social meetings and regular in office events have really helped.  After working from home pretty much full time for the past 3 years I much prefer it. I seem to be more productive when working from home compared to working in the office. It also saves me a lot of time and money not having to commute!

Favourite project you’ve worked on?

As I have only been here 6 months, I haven’t been involved in too many projects yet, however one project I am currently involved in is for an Azure Virtual Desktop proof of concept. The objective of this project is to improve performance while reducing costs compared to their on premise solution. This has given me the opportunity to work with technologies I haven’t had much hands on experience working with and will help me work towards the AZ 140 certification.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?

As I sit down for a large part of my day while working, I like to try keep fit and active outside of work. I’m a big football fan and play for a local football team so that keeps me occupied when not working.

Something on your bucket list?

It has always been a dream of mine to experience Christmas in New York, a few of my friends have been and highly recommend it.
