This month in our Meet the Team series, we’re talking to Andrew Boothman. A Senior Software Engineer, we talk to Andrew about his role and what he enjoys the most about working at Bridgeall.

Tell us more about your role and what it involves?

I’m a Senior Software Engineer at Bridgeall, this means that I’m usually working as part of a team of engineers and with our customers to deliver software projects. I could be leading small teams of engineers or doing hands on software development, design and testing, or some combination of all of the above.

How long have you been working at Bridgeall?

Just over 11 years now!

What do you like most about your job?

I like that technology is always moving quickly and there are always new things to learn. There can be brand new technologies, new frameworks or new approaches. There’s always something you can improve on.

What does a typical day for you look like?

A typical day would probably start with a stand up/scrum meeting with my current team where we discuss what we achieved yesterday, and what we plan to achieve that day. After that there might be design meetings/calls or individual development tasks that would fill most of the day.

What is your background?

I studied Computer Science at the University of Edinburgh, and have obtained a number of Microsoft qualifications while working at Bridgeall, including in .Net technologies and most recently in Azure and Azure DevOps.

What is it like working at Bridgeall?

Bridgeall is a great bunch of people, very friendly and helpful. I hope we can get back to more sociable activities with the team soon.

How have you found moving to working from home?

Like most people, I’ve found working from home a bit of a mixed bag. I’m lucky to have sufficient space to have a decent home office setup, but have found working remotely from others a bit difficult at times. Microsoft Teams has made most meetings run smoothly but I hope to be able to see more team members face-to-face in the future.

Favourite project you’ve worked on?

I like when a project is long running and something that you are really able to make your mark with. Our Smartcrowds SaaS application is a good example of this and I was a member of the development team on that for a number of years.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?

I spend too much of my time playing video games and watching YouTube!

Something on your bucket list?

I’d love to visit Iceland and see the Northern Lights.
