Microsoft Azure Continues to Close the Gap on AWS
Microsoft Azure has emerged as a major rival to AWS in the IaaS sector according to a recent survey by 451 Research. Almost 35% of respondents named Microsoft as their most important IaaS provider, up from 20.2% in the previous survey dated 2015.
Microsoft also closed the gap on AWS when it came to customer perception, posting above-average scores for overall promise and fulfilment with particularly strong marks for service reliability and value for money/cost.
Microsoft’s position is expected to strengthen further with the launch of Azure Stack by mid-2017.
Azure is already the dominant IaaS provider in Europe with 43.7% of European respondents citing it compared to the 32% naming AWS.
Survey respondents were also asked to rate their IaaS providers on a range of attributes prior to purchase and after implementation. AWS performed poorly for overall customer experience with Microsoft Azure rating highest for ‘understands my business’.
